Everyone loves LEGO, right? The Danish play bricks have been fuelling kids’ imaginations for years and, in recent years, they’ve also been making some pretty cool sets for bikers too.
The latest motorcycle to get the LEGO treatment is Kawasaki’s supercharged Ninja H2R. The 310bhp, 200mph, superbike was introduced in 2015 and is an ultra rare sight. It costs £49,000 and isn’t even road legal. Thankfully the LEGO version should be much more commonplace. It will cost £69.99 when it goes on sale on 1 March and can take pride of place on your desk or mantle place, as well as in your kid’s toy box.
The 1:8 scale model uses LEGO’s Technic system and features working steering and suspension. The model features an articulated four-cylinder engine, complete with dummy supercharger and a working two-speed gearbox. While assembled from standard LEGO Technic parts, there are a few custom parts including the distinctive windscreen and Kawasaki logos on the model’s fuel tank. The design includes a LEGO side stand, which allows the model to support itself without the need for a special display stand.
At 31cm long and consisting of 643 parts, the Kawasaki Ninja H2R set is smaller and less expensive than LEGO’s other licenced Technic motorbike sets. The range also includes some incredibly complex sets allowing adults to build LEGO interpretations of the BMW M 1000 RR superbike and Yamaha’s MT-10 SP super naked. These are both around 45cm in length and consist of 1478 (Yamaha) or 1921 (BMW) parts, with prices of £199.99 (Yamaha) or £214.99 (BMW). The Kawasaki model is a more affordable and simple build, aimed at LEGO fans aged 10 and above. Other current sets include a funky Vespa scooter and a LEGO version of the fictional Batbike.
LEGO motorcycles have been pretty popular in recent years. Retired sets include interpretations of some of the most iconic motorcycles of recent years, including Ducati’s world superbike championship winning Panigale V4R, the best-selling BMW R 1200 GS adventure bike and Harley-Davidson’s famous Fat Boy cruiser.
