Aprilia

Aprilia, owned by Piaggio.

Aprilia is an international company, but holds true to its roots with the HQ still based in Noale, Venice.

Founded in Noale, Italy after the Second World War by Cavaliere Alberto Beggio, Aprilia was a bicycle production company. In 1968, his son took over the company and produced the first ‘motorcycle’, which is a 50cc scooter in today’s terms. The Scarabeo was unveiled in 1970, and the motocross bike continued to be produced in 50cc and 125cc versions until the end of the decade. Aprilia continued to produce motocross bikes, and went on to become a brand that was renowned for its sports pedigree – both on and off the track.

Aprilia’s racing reputation was traditionally built in the lower classes of the MotoGP Grand Prix series, with the constructor winning nine 250cc championships and ten 125cc championships between 1995 and 2011. The Aprilia RSA 125 set the record for most points earned in a single season by a manufacturer with 410 points in 2007 and beat its own record in 2011 with 420 points.

In World Superbikes, Aprilia returned to the championship in 2009 and just a year later, won the championship with Max Biaggi on the RSV4. Biaggi reclaimed his title two years later in his retirement season in 2012.

Away from the track, the Aprilia RSV1000 Mille is highly regarded, as is the Tuono V4 R and the 50cc RX50 motocross bike

The Aprilia RS250 uses just the chassis of an Aprilia motorcycle with modifications in all other aspects. Featuring RSV1000 rims, Yamaha R1 front fork components and Honda 250GP fairing alongside other hand built parts.
