It’s fair to say that here at Insidebikes, we’re big fans of nostalgia. And as it seems, so are Honda, who’ve revived a whole host of their legendary models from years gone by, such as the latest Super Cub, which we tested earlier this year. And now? Well, the Dax is the latest model to make its way back into the fold.
Getting its distinctive name from the small, long Dachshund breed of dog, the Dax slots in nicely to the smaller end of Honda’s range, alongside their MSX125 Grom and the legendary Monkey. Weighing it at just 107kg and powered by a 124cc SOHC, air-cooled engine, the Dax pumps out just over 9bhp @ 7,000rpm, alongside 10.8Nm torque at 5,000rpm, with Honda telling us that even two-up, it will be good for cruising along at 50mph. As far as efficiency goes, the tank holds 3.8 litres of fuel, and will give a range of about 149 miles, which isn’t too shabby at all. Like the Super Cub, the Dax comes equipped with a four-speed gearbox, alongside a centrifugal clutch – meaning there’s no actual clutch lever to navigate.
The chassis remains true to the original 1970s mini bike in terms of its iconic T-shape pressed steel frame, which not only houses the fuel tank but allows for a pillion as well. This is all taken care of by modern 31mm USD forks, twin rear shocks and hydraulic disc brakes, alongside 12” blacked-out mini bike wheels. The look of the Dax is completed with LED lights, an LCD dash and a whole host of retro components, from the chrome mudguard to the circular headlight.
The 2023 Honda Dax will be available in two colours, the Pearl Nebula Red and Pearl Cadet Grey. There’s no word yet on availability or price, but we can’t wait to swing a leg over one!
