Yes, we know that Aprilia’s RS 660 doesn’t go down the same route as the traditional supersport machines – going for lightness and agility over outright power – yet even so, it’s an absolutely cracking bit of kit; an exciting engine, enough power to have fun, a glorious chassis and a whole suite of riding aids. But if that isn’t enough for you, then the new RS 660 Extrema should be right up your street.
With a name taken from the iconic two-stroke RS 125 Extrema from 1992 to 1994 (the highest performance production 125cc ever), it really does need to mean business. Although the power is the same as the standard RS 660, Aprilia has managed to shave off a bit of weight (3kg, to be exact) thanks to the addition of some lightweight goodies: a street-legal SC Project exhaust system being the biggest change, followed by a carbon mudguard and carbon belly pan, alongside a single seat tail unit. Also, the RS 660 Extrema comes with software which allows you to configure the quickshifter into a race-shift pattern without replacing any components, and it also comes finished in a new white and red livery too.
With the standard model coming in at £10,300, we expect the Extrema to sit above the £11,000 mark and to be hitting dealers in early 2023.
