Top Five Motorbike Locks

Your bike is your pride and joy – so naturally, you’re going to want to keep it safe as possible at all times. Luckily, there’s a lock for every occasion and, here at Carole Nash, we’ve picked some of our favourites ahead of this year’s riding season.

Doubling up

While you’re out and about, the last thing you’re going to need is a lock that A: takes up lots of space and B: weighs more than a Honda Goldwing. That’s why disc brake locks are the perfect solution.

When it comes to picking the right disc lock, look no further than the ABUS Detecto. Being both compact and light, these little beauties can fit in your rucksack with ease. Not only that, they’re really simple to use and even come with an in-built alarm system that reaches 100dB, which should help fend off any unwanted predators.

Heavy duty

Whether you’re chaining your bike to a ground anchor, lamp post or rail, you’re going to need a chain that’s big enough, and tough enough, to deter any prying eyes. Luckily, Oxford have designed a chain that does exactly that.

The Oxford HD chain is a real monster. Boasting a 9.5mm square link chain, hardened steel shackle and 360 degree rotating lock head, this chain is one of the best deterrents you could invest in.

No twist, no go

Perfect for motorcycles, scooters and ATVs, Ryde’s Throtlock is an innovative lock that attaches to your bike’s brake levers – which in turn renders your bike immovable.

What’s great about this particular invention is that, unlike disc locks, they’re impossible to forget. What’s more, they’re lightweight, compact and affordable – which makes them a firm favourite here at insidebikes.

Staying grounded

If you’re lucky enough to have a garage, or a hard-floored spot where you can store your bike, you might want to start thinking about investing in a ground anchor.

Given the years of good service a proper anchor can provide, they’re a savvy – and most importantly, affordable – investment for any biker. One such anchor is the Mammoth Security Bolt-In Ground Anchor. Manufactured from hardened steel, not even the strongest burglar in the world will be able to uproot this bad boy once it’s been bolted to the ground.

Keeping trac

The last lock to be mentioned in our list, isn’t really a lock at all – in fact, it’s a website!

Technology is set to revolutionise motorcycle security over the next few years – and Bike Trac by Road Angel is just one of the companies who are leading the way today. In short, Bike Trac uses GPS to track your bike’s whereabouts via a website, 24 hours a day – which should go some way in reuniting you with your pride and joy should it decide to go walkabout!

Having a proper security set-up could save you money when it comes to insuring your bike. To see how much you could save, why not get a free, Motorbike insurance quote online today!

If you choose to insure your bike with Carole Nash, we’ll help you when it comes to securing your wheels by throwing in our very own DNA+ free of charge. Containing a combination of microdots, digital nanoparticles and synthetic DNA, DNA+ is designed to make it as difficult as possible for your bike to be broken up and sold for parts – and it’s really easy to use.
