New Yamaha XSR125 Legacy – is this the coolest 125cc on the market?

It is fair to say that 125cc machines have come on leaps and bounds over recent years, going from strength to strength in terms of sales, style and substance. In recent years Kawasaki and Suzuki have entered the market with learner legal interpretations of their flagship big bikes, while Honda’s offerings have broadened with a gargantuan 125 range offering everything from humble step-thrus to luxury scooters and cool roadsters like the CB125R.

And now? Yamaha has created a new model to add to its already impressive range of L plate warriors – giving  the modern classic XSR125 a nifty little makeover with the introduction of the Legacy model.

As the name suggests, it is based heavily on the standard Yamaha XSR125, which we reviewed last year. The Legacy comes with all of the same components, including the VVA equipped single cylinder engine from the YZF-R125 sportsbike, Deltabox-style beam frame and upside down forks. Unlike the standard model however, the Legacy model comes with a seriously smart remodelling that includes a set of wire wheels, gold rims and an incredibly distinctive new paint scheme, which really does look stunning if we do say so ourselves. They’ve then gifted the Legacy with a few additional parts that include a new exhaust cover and finished it off with some higher-spec, off-road styled, Metzeler Karoo rubber for an even more retro look.

The Yamaha XSR125 Legacy comes in at £4950 with all OTR costs, or will set you back around £59 a month on a PCP deal, over 36 months with a £1,134.80 deposit. If you fancy one, they will be hitting dealers this summer.
