Lexmoto have built quite a reputation for providing good value motorcycles and scooters in recent years, especially in the 125cc class.
Now the budget Devon brand has built its most potent A1 class bike yet, with its new LXS 125 – a £2500 alternative to the likes of the KTM RC 125 and Yamaha YZF-R125.
Like those best selling models, which cost almost double that of the Chinese made Lexmoto, the LXS is a fully faired race replica style machine. It’s not the first machine of that type for Lexmoto, in fact the LXR 125 was the best selling race replica type motorcycle in the UK last year. The LXS offers an even sportier option, with more power and less weight. The LXR remains in the range, and with a higher seat and wider (150 section) rear tyre it may well continue to appeal to taller riders.
Powered by a liquid cooled 125cc single cylinder engine, which meets the latest Euro5 regulations, the new LXS produces 13.8bhp. That’s 1.3bhp more than the old LXR and just a smidge under the full 11kw (14.75bhp) allowed under learner laws.
With a wet weight of 155kg, it’s also 12kg lighter than the LXR – an impressive figure, even if it is still carrying 10kg more than the more premium models on the market.
Part of that extra weight will come from the twin front wavy disc brake set-up, preferred over the single disc set up found on most 125s, and overall the Lexmoto has the look of a bigger bike.
Other sporty touches include LED headlights and a tidy twin exit underseat exhaust system. Despite the racy looks. The LXS can be ridden on L plates after passing a CBT and has a claimed top speed of nearly 70mph.
Two colour options are available. Matt Grey with fluorescent yellow wheels and detailing is a combo made popular by Yamaha on its MT range of models, with the blue and black alternative for riders preferring a more sober alternative.
