Harley-Davidson announce new models for 2022

Performance baggers, faster Low Riders and new CVO range are the focus over in Milwaukee.

Harley-Davidson has pulled the covers of its new 2022 models, with the Bar and Shield brand seemingly going back to its custom bike roots this year.

Having launched the Pan-America adventure bike last year, and taken a brief diversion down Electric Avenue with the LiveWire, 2022 sees Harley back doing what it does best – stonking great V-twin cruisers in the great American style.

Two revved up tourers join what Harley describe as the Grand American Touring range: the Street Glide ST and the Road Glide ST. Inspired by the new Stateside trend for ‘Bagger’ racing, which is a support class in the MotoAmerica superbike series, the new machines are inspired by H-D’s championship winning King of the Baggers machines.

Road Glide

The Californian style Glides start from a shade over £27,000 and feature a dark and low chassis powered by Harley-Davidson’s Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine. The Motor Company claims 103bhp from the 1923cc powerplant, but these V-twins are all about the torque, which peaks at a staggering 168Nm.

They may look traditional, but the Glides are fully loaded for (solo) touring, with Harley’s massive colour touch screen infotainment system among the massive spec. The Street Glide ST features Harley’s iconic batwing fairing, while the Road Glide has a smaller, frame mounted, cowling with twin headlamps. Cornering ABS and traction control are standard equipment to keep all that torque in check.

Street Glide

The Milwaukee-Eight 117 also finds its way into the Low Rider S and new Low Rider ST for 2022. The Low Rider S costs £17,795 and features a small bikini, while the £19,395 ST (for Sports Touring) adds a bigger frame mounted fairing and panniers. In keeping with the current trend, both have a stripped back look with solo seats, blacked out components and simple colourschemes in grey or black.

Harley-Davidson has also announced which four models will be getting its exclusive CVO (Custom Vehicles Operations) treatment in 2022.

From the ‘Grand American Touring’ range, the Street Glide, Road Glide and Road Glide Limited will all be available under the programme, which adds hand finished custom paint and detailing to specced-up models, while the Tri Glide trike can also be specified in CVO trim, resplendent with orange flames on black.

As always the CVO treatment doesn’t come cheap, with prices starting at £36,195 for the CVO Street Glide through to £47,895 for the CVO Tri Glide.
