Ducati reveals new ‘Black on Black’ colourscheme for Monster 1200 S
Ducati has taken the wraps off a new ‘Black on Black’ colourscheme for the Monster 1200 S naked bike which, unsurprisingly, is almost completely black in colour.
The new bike is the first of the 2020 models shown in full production trim and comes weeks ahead of the rest of the model reveals, which will be shown at the world’s biggest motorcycle show at the EICMA show in Milan, Italy.
The Monster 1200 S will still be available in the classic Ducati red for those who insist on keeping with the colour that has come to symbolise the Monster range since it first appeared in 1993 and was widely credited with being the bike that saved Ducati from oblivion.
The new bike has a mixture of gloss and matt finish black parts with flashes of red on the wheels.
Changes to this new 2020 model are purely cosmetic but they do lend a great deal of menace to the overall style of the Monster 1200 S which may be a fairly stripped-back naked roadster but still packs some advanced technology.
The engine of the Monster 1200 S is the latest version of the Testastretta 11, twin spark, V-twin engine which produces 147bhp and is kept in check with cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control thanks to the inertial platform which monitors various parameters like lean angle, wheel speed along with pitch.
Ducati’s press release explains a little more about the specification of the bike, saying: “The exclusive S version sharpens that Monster sports performance to an even finer edge thanks to a 48mm Öhlins fork and rear Öhlins monoshock, both fully adjustable.
“Awesome braking is provided by two 330 mm Brembo discs at the front working in concert with Brembo M50 monobloc calipers.
“The Monster 1200 S also features wheels with three Y-spokes, a carbon fibre front mudguard, a headlight characterised by the DRL (Daytime Running Light) and LED indicators. Completing the as-standard equipment is the up and down quickshifter.”
Prices and availability dates for the UK have not yet been released.
