California Superbike School

The California Superbike School is iconic which is why Carole Nash are proud to be involved with such a great initiative and partnering up with them in 2022.

Founded in 1980 by former American racer Keith Code, who famously coached triple 500cc world champion Wayne Rainey. His 1983 book, Twist of the Wrist: The Motorcycle Roadracers Handbook, was considered essential reading for aspiring motorcycle racers, as were the subsequent follow-ups and DVDs.

Such was the near mythical status of the school, by the mid-1990s it had expanded globally. A UK operation was formed in 1996 and head coach Andy Ibbott went on to coach a number of world class riders, including champions like Sandro Cortese, Leon Camier, Tom Luthi and even the great Valentino Rossi.

Despite its association with top racers, the school has always been aimed at everyday riders. The clue is in the name, the California Superbike School is very much a school, based in the classroom as well as on the circuit, and the curriculum, still overseen globally by Code, has nearly 150 different exercises, or drills as they are known. There are three highly structured levels, which must be taken in order, with a fourth level offering a more personalised programme.

The UK franchise has recently been taken up by Global Motorcycle Events, and they have teamed up with Carole Nash, as well as a number of other highly respected brands including Kawasaki, Pirelli and Dainese.

This year’s dates will be at four circuits in England: Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Cadwell Park and Bedford Autodrome, and the courses will be aimed at everyone from relative newcomers through to experienced riders.

Speaking of the partnership, Carole Nash’s Head of Marketing, Rebecca Donohue, said: “The team at Carole Nash are motorcycle enthusiasts and we’re staunch advocates of advanced rider training. The guys who deliver the California Superbike School in the UK are a highly experienced and professional team. We are really looking forward to working with them in the future to set new standards of training for everyone and we’ll specifically be working with the school to help newly qualified riders to improve their skills.”

Gary Adshead, the Chief Riding Coach at the California Superbike School added: “Carole Nash is a household name in the motorcycle insurance industry and I am delighted that we will be working with Rebecca and her team to promote the importance of advanced training for all motorcycle riders, but especially those who are new to two-wheels.
