BMW’s K 1600 touring range gets an overhaul for 2022

BMW have given their big, six-cylinder cruiser range some smart updates for 2022.

If you’re on the hunt for a hefty touring machine, then it’s hard to look past the K 1600 range from BMW – and not just because of its size. The K 1600 has proven itself to be an incredibly worth machine, and for 2022, BMW say that it will be even better, thanks to little refinements in almost every area.

For starters, BMW have fettled with that hefty six-cylinder engine so even though it makes the same 160bhp in peak power, it actually makes the power lower down the rev range. Alongside this, the torque figure has been upped to 180Nm, from 175Nm on the previous model and is also available a welcome 1000rpm sooner. Alongside those gains, the motor is fully Euro5 compliant as well. On paper, it all sounds like a great improvement for a range of machines that are all about a relaxing ride.

It’s not just the engine that BMW have been working on though, as they’ve tweaked the suspension too, with the 2022 models running Dynamic ESA ‘Next Generation’ electronic suspension, with fully automatic load compensation as standard. While we’re on the subject of gadgets, the K 1600s also come equipped with a large new 10.25” full colour TFT display, alongside the usual wizardry, such as smartphone connectivity as standard, as well as a newly updated audio system too.

BMW say that bikes will be in dealers in March 2022, with prices starting at £20,215 for the K 1600 B, £20,395 for the K 1600 GT, £21,920 for the K 1600 GYL, and finally, £24,410 for the K 1600 Grand America. Oh, and if you want something slightly different, there’s a ‘Midnight’ colour scheme available on the B and Grand America models, which has been created by a water transfer printing method.
