Bikers’ epic ride for cancer charities

bikers plan 2k mile ride for cancer charitiesAn intrepid group of six motorcycle fanatics are set to take on yet another epic challenge as they prepare to ride more than 2,000 miles across Britain in support of two cancer charities.

Five bikers and one pillion passenger will ride to the extreme north, south, east and west of mainland Britain as part of the Graham Homes memorial motorcycle ride, in support of Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Graham Homes, who was a keen biker and had six car dealerships across Lincolnshire, died in June 2012 at the age of 61 following a diagnosis of Stage IV Kidney Cancer just a couple of months earlier. He had been treated at Boston Pilgrim Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital before being transferred to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The ride will see Graham’s son Alister and daughter-in-law Zoe, Rick, Paul, Edward (who has only recently passed his test) and Veronica leave in Boston, Lincolnshire, and ride to Lowestoft Ness in the East, Lizard Point in the South, Corrachadh Mor in the West and Dunnet Head in the North.

“This is not the first time we’ve done something like this,” said Zoe Homes. “Back in 2009 we undertook a similar trip taking us from John O’Groats to Land’s End and raising more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Salvation Army. We want to recreate something of that trip in tribute to Graham; we know it won’t be the same without him but feel it is only right to do something positive in his memory to try and make a difference to someone else and their family.”

She added: “We never know when we, or someone we love, might need the services of these charities – please help us do something now to help should that need ever arise.”

All donations are shared equally between Macmillan and Cancer Research. Anyone who would like to make a contribution to support the crew can do so at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=gvhmr.
